Tetra Pak, a world leading supplier of systems for liquid food processing and packaging, is no stranger to global school feeding. Through its Food for Development Office, it initiates and supports school feeding and nutrition programs worldwide through public/private partnerships. One such partnership is with the Global Child Nutrition Foundation (GCNF).
The Tetra Pak-GCNF partnership has evolved over the past three years. In 2008, Ulla Holm, Global Director of the Tetra Pak Food for Development Office, participated in the Global Child Nutrition Forum and presented a case study on, “School-Feeding Programmes – A Catalyst for Sustainable Development.” Holm reported that in 2007, Tetra Pak and its network of dairy and food processing customers were working with school feeding programs in more than 50 countries including China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Iran and Russia. Holm also reported that several new programs were launched in India, Haiti, Pakistan, Palestine, Angola and Vietnam. A natural partnership was forged at the Global Forum as Holm saw first-hand how GCNF was working with leaders of developing countries to build and expand school feeding programs. Holm accepted an invitation to join the GCNF Board of Directors, and with her fellow Board members has guided GCNF through its tremendous growth spurt over the past year. Further cementing the partnership, Tetra Pak will sponsor GCNF’s A Possible Dream Gala as an Advocate of Children’s Dreams with a generous $25,000 contribution.
Tetra Pak models its commitment to alleviating hunger and raising communities out of poverty. GCNF is pleased to have Tetra Pak as a true partner in reducing child hunger.
