The 12th annual Global Child Nutrition Forum will convene in Accra, Ghana June 1-5, 2010. The purpose of the Forum is to help leaders from developing countries start or expand school feeding programs. Forum participants represent countries developing new programs, or seeking to improve existing school feeding programs. Since 1997, the annual Forum has united leaders for five days of intensive training, technical assistance and program planning, all directed toward establishing country-operated sustainable programs. By sharing their insights, experiences, and challenges, an informal worldwide alliance of leaders dedicated to advancing school feeding has evolved. As a result, the Forum has become a global catalyst for school feeding development. The Global Child Nutrition Foundation (GCNF) is collaborating with the Partnership for Child Development (PCD) on the 2010 Forum.

The Forum will take place at the Golden Tulip Hotel in the capital city of Accra.  The theme for the Forum is Partnerships for Country Development: School Feeding, School Health and Agriculture. Forty delegates will have been invited from fifteen countries in Africa and Asia. Confirmed countries include Malawi, Ghana, Mali, Kenya, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Angola, Cape Verde, Senegal, India, Uganda, Laos and Bangladesh. Speakers have been identified from several prominent organizations including the World Bank, the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Food Programme (WFP). Attendees will continue utilizing GCNF’s School Feeding Toolkit: A Resource for Assessing Needs and Planning Sustainable School Feeding Programs during a day of intensive workshops.

As in 2009, the Forum will be preceded by Joint Aid Management’s 3rd Annual School Feeding Roundtable on May 30-31, 2010.  This meeting brings together non-governmental organizations (NGO’s), private voluntary organizations (PVO’s), donors and other interested parties working to advance and improve global school feeding programs in Africa. The Global Child Nutrition Forum and the School Feeding Roundtable are by invitation only.
