In March 2010, Jennie-O-Turkey Store made a generous contribution of $5,000 to GCNF’s Change Our World campaign. This gift was the result of the enthusiastic participation of students at 50 schools in a Share the Thanks campaign that started in the fall of 2009. Jennie-O Turkey Store partnered with GCNF for their annual Holiday promotion giving schools the opportunity to Share the Thanks! By partnering with GCNF Jennie-O Turkey Store provided a unique opportunity for schools to help Change Our World and “expand the opportunities for the world’s children to receive adequate nutrition for learning and achieving their potential.”
Schools participated in the holiday promotion during November and December with “Thursday is Turkey Day.” Schools committed to placing one of Jennie-O Turkey Store’s perennial holiday favorites and at least one new item on the Thursday menus during November and December.
For every ten cases of qualifying product ordered, Jennie-O Turkey Store sent a unique Holiday Promotion Kit. The kit included a 6’ x 2’ Share the Thanks! banner for schools to hang in the cafeteria and a roll of 500 stickers. School Nutrition professionals passed out stickers to the students and encouraged them to write about something they were thankful for and then placed the stickers on the banner. Once the banners were filled with stickers, schools were encouraged to snap a photo and submit it to Jennie-O Turkey Store. For every photo received, Jennie-O Turkey Store committed to donating $100 to GCNF’s Change Our World campaign.
