GCNF and SNA (School Nutrition Association) Staff realize that families in our own town suffer from hunger. According to the Capital Area Food Bank, 633,000 DC metro area residents are at risk of being hungry. 200,000 of those residents at risk are children. The Capital Area Food Bank was founded in 1980 and is the largest, nonprofit hunger and nutrition education resources in the Washington Metropolitan area. The Capital Area Food Bank has expanded, and currently distributes 23 million pounds of food to more than 383,000 people through a network of partner agencies.
The Capital Area Food Bank staff are committed to the work they do within the metropolitan area. To support this, GCNF and SNA decided to direct holiday energy toward supporting the Capital Area Food Bank. Staff contributed nonperishable food items and raised cash donations that were given to the Capital Area Food Bank before the Winter Holidays. We were happy to help our neighbors in the DC Metro area. GCNF will continue to direct our efforts globally by ensuring that sustainable school feeding programs can flourish.
