As we renew our energy with the launch of a new decade, GCNF asks that you help us celebrate the completion of two studies recently submitted to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  Delivered to the Gates Foundation on November 30, 2009, these studies respond to the various concerns of school feeding as evidenced by the recent food crisis and child malnutrition.

Each report focuses on different yet equally important aspects of school feeding.  The Country Policy and Funding Mechanism Study examines how five middle income countries have established sustainable, nationally-owned and operated school feeding programs.  The Needs Assessment for Developing Sustainable School Feeding in Sichuan Province, China assesses how a model school feeding program in Deyang, Sichuan Province can be achieved.

GCNF believes that those countries, individuals and organizations interested in linking school feeding programs to agricultural development will greatly benefit from our findings.  GCNF toasts the global efforts made this past year to improve food security for students and their families, and hopes that these studies are read in good health as we reflect on 2009 and begin 2010.

If you have questions regarding either of these studies, please contact GCNF Program Manager Erica Davies at either (301) 686-3104 or edavies@schoolnutrition.org.
